Someone put Guy Boucher’s scar on notice. The NHL Southeast division is dropping coaches like a ten cent whore this morning. The Carolina Hurricanes just announced that Head Coach Paul Maurice has been relieved of his duties. This was his second time coaching the team.
The Hurricanes are in last place in the SE, with a record of 8-13-4. They are in 14th place in the East, only performing better than the New York Islanders. They are also dealing with a less than stellar season from Captain Eric Staal (drink). His +/- is -17. Kinda puts the Penguins issue with Paul Martin into perspective a bit. E. Staal has only 11 points in 25 games.
While a new coach has not been named for the Canes, TSN has released information that Kirk Muller has accepted the position. Muller was an assistant coach for the Canadiens and retired from the NHL in 2003 with the Dallas Stars. He played 19 seasons in the NHL.
